Clay Classes for Kids & Adults

Clay Class Dates:         Session 1: Sept 14-Oct 24
                                   Session 2: Nov 2-Dec 19
                                   (no classes Nov 24-Nov 30)

All classes are held at the MAC Clay Studio in our East Annex building.
Artwork can be picked up at Open Studios the week following your class. Please enroll online at manhattanarts.org or in person in the office.

YOUTH CLASSES
REDUCED RATES are available for all MAC classes for students in the free or reduced school lunch program.

Homeschool Clay Class
Instructor: Gretchen Hedrick                                                       Ages: see dates
Day:      Wednesdays      Time: 1:30-3:00pm                     Cost: $85
Dates:   Session 1 (for ages 6-10):     9/17-10/22
              Session 2 (for ages 10-14):   11/5-12/17

Students will learn handbuilding techniques to make sculptures, pots, cups, and other ceramic creations! Clay cost is included. 


Mythical Creature Sculpting
Instructor: Gretchen Hedrick
Dates: Session 1 (Sept 16-Oct 21)
Days: Tuesdays             Time: 4:30-6:00pm                                  
Ages: 6+
Cost: $85          (min. enrollment 4)

Use your imagination and learn to sculpt mythical and creative creatures out of clay! Basic handbuilding skills will be taught. Clay cost is included.
Ceramic Gift Makers
Instructor: Gretchen Hedrick
Dates: Session 2 (Nov 4-Dec 16- with no class Nov 25)
Days: Tuesdays Time: 4:30-6:00pm
Ages: 8+
Cost: $85 (min. enrollment 4)

Learn or continue your basic handbuilding skills and work toward completing a variety of projects that can be given to friends or family for the holidays! Projects may include: coil pots, windchimes, ceramic pendants, or cups. Clay cost is included.

Beginning Wheel I                          (Session 1) see ABOVE for session dates
Beginning Wheel II                        (Session 2)

Instructor: Josh Campbell                           Day & Time: Sundays             4:00-6:00pm             
Cost: $90   (min. enrollment 5)                                          

This class will teach the basics of throwing on the wheel to create pots, as well as hand building and texture techniques, including coil, slab, and pinch pots. The second session is for beginners or for those wanting to continue their skills from Session 1.
Morning Ceramics I (Session 1)
Morning Ceramics II (Session 2)

Instructor: Margaret Haden Day & Time: Tuesdays 9:30-11:30am
Cost: $90   (min. enrollment 5) 

Get creative in the morning! You will learn beginning handbuilding techniques and to throw on the wheel. The second session is for beginners or for those wanting to continue their skills from Session 1.
Clay Sampler (Session 1)

Instructor: Margaret Haden Day & Time: Tuesdays 1:00-3:00pm
Cost: $90   (min. enrollment 5) 

This class will introduce a variety of clay techniques including hand building, coil, slab, and throwing on the wheel.
Independent Ceramic Projects (Session 2)

Instructor: Margaret Haden Day & Time: Tuesdays 1:00-3:00pm
Cost: $90   (min. enrollment 5) 

This class will introduce a variety of clay techniques including hand building, coil, slab, and throwing on the wheel.







* For Adult classes, clay cost is not included.  Clay must be purchased from MAC.  Cost is $22/bag of new clay and includes glazes & firing OR $15 for unlimited reclaimed clay.  No outside clay is allowed.

   CLAY OPEN STUDIO 

Wed. & Sun.:  6:00 - 9:00 p.m. 
Location:        MAC Clay Studio (in the Annex building)

 
Cost:          $8 per session OR $60 per month for unlimited open studio sessions
Clay Cost:  $22 (Includes 25 lbs. clay, glazes and firing fee)



Open studio is available for teens & adults who do not need instruction.



New!  FIRST FRIDAY THROWING NIGHTS 

Day:  Postponed until October
Time:  7-9pm
Location:  MAC Clay Studio (in the Annex building) 
 
Make a bowl or pot for only $10! Cost includes studio time, firing, and glazes. (You will return a week later to glaze your own pot.) Open to adults or kids & their parent. Great date night, girls' night out, or family activity!
